Freefalling

Freelensing + Fall = some serious visual excitement!

Freelensing is the method of detaching the lens from the camera body and shooting by using your feet as a vario, and tilting the lens to find a focus point.  It's really fun, and I want to give all the credit to my fellow photographer Alex for inspiring me to try it out!  The shallow depth of field is insane, and the overall effect is almost like a tilt-shift.  I present you my first experiments with this technique, and boy, do I love the bokeh and the flares in these!

Taken in my back yard this morning, just before the weather turned overcast.

Mamarazzi

Julian is almost two and a half months old, and he's already used to having my camera in his face.  He is still a very serious baby...until he smiles, and then the whole world brightens up!

These were taken on an overcast day, and I really like the filtered quality of the light.

Guest star: Shelby (and Grandma assisting in the background with holding up the baby)!

Last Days in London...

Well, this is it.  All of my London archives have been revised, edited anew, and posted here.  These images are taken during my last weeks and days in London before we moved to the States.  They are  quite random and quite precious - although I was eager to start anew I truly liked the city and I still miss it sometimes.  This is where I learned to light-hunt!

The still life macros shown here are barely retouched - the quality of light in London was almost always perfect as the sun was filtered in the most exquisite way through the clouds.  Also, favorite images from Oxford Circus, Tower Bridge, the Tube, the South Bank and St. Paul's, Market Place, and a snapshot from the only time I rode in a Black Cab.

Enjoy!

Summertime Sadness

I miss my home country...

The nostalgia is strongest in the Summer, which I always associate with a vacation in Lovech, Bulgaria, where I feel most free and like myself.

Here are a few images from the archives, including an outtake from a portrait shoot with my sister. Taken with a Sigma macro lens that produces the most amazing flares!

Childhood Unplugged

This is my niece, Ally.  She's a tween now, but here she was just a little girl with her Teddy Bear, frolicking around the place without a single worry on her mind.  I took these as a part of a Flickr contest in 2009.  The image with the Bear and the back of her dress was the winning one.

Sylvia

This is my sister Sylvia.  She's an amazing person, and this is my favorite portrait of her.  I took this a few years back while visiting my homeland for the summer.  I love the light in here, and her Mona Lisa smile...!
